This facility urgently needs improvements. The building itself is not well designed for the needs of elderly residents and visitors. There should be proper covered access for ambulances and vehicles. Currently, when people arrive or leave, they are exposed to the weather and often get wet getting out of the car, which is unacceptable for an aged care environment. Management should consider investing money in the right areas that actually improve safety and comfort for residents and visitors. Unfortunately, the staff attitude was also disappointing. Some staff members were rude and unhelpful, which is not what families expect when trusting a facility with the care of their loved ones. The executive team also appears disconnected from the day-to-day reality of the facility. There seems to be a lack of understanding of how the place is actually run and what residents and families need. Another major issue was the pharmacy billing. The pharmacy is very expensive, and we were given an incorrect bill that resulted in being overcharged. Billing should be transparent and accurate, especially in a care setting where families are already dealing with a lot. Overall, there are serious issues that management needs to address, including infrastructure, staff professionalism, and billing practices.

To all the staff at John Atchison Mecwacare, thank you for the exceptional care, dignity and love that you showed my dad while he lived there. You cared for him with passion that never went unnoticed. You cared for our family especially our mum when she visited everyday. Your dedication and tears when my dad passed will live with me forever. Thank you ❤️
