Forget the beautiful spaces and large rooms — the care is what truly matters, and unfortunately our experience at this facility has been deeply disappointing. Staff appear undertrained, with some not even knowing how to correctly insert dentures. Residents are rushed through morning and evening care routines with little dignity or compassion shown. There is minimal encouragement for residents to participate in activities or engage socially, and in 18 months there was only one outing attended. Residents are rarely taken outside for walks, and the lifestyle team has made family members feel unwelcome rather than supported. Communication with next of kin has been extremely poor. Serious health concerns, including skin fold excoriation that progressed into an open wound due to failure to properly dry the resident, were never communicated to family. There have also been instances where explanations surrounding falls appeared fabricated, despite family being aware of what had actually occurred. The onsite physiotherapist only seems to become involved after family members raise concerns and request reviews themselves. There has also been inadequate assistance with feeding, a lack of empathy towards elderly residents, and overall an environment that feels task-focused rather than care-focused. Some staff seem more concerned with finishing rounds quickly than providing genuine care and dignity. The Nursing Manager was extremely rude and unprofessional, and interactions with carers were at times inappropriate and presumptive — including assumptions being made while we were simply preparing a loved one’s belongings for transfer to another facility. Families considering this home should look beyond the appearance of the building and pay close attention to the actual standard of care being provided. In our experience, the management, nursing staff, and carers often appeared disengaged, uncaring, and lacking the compassion required to properly care for vulnerable elderly residents.
