My mum has recently moved into the James Ommaney Retirement community, from a retirement community on the other side of Brisbane. While there were some up-front costs, her ongoing costs are reduced so she can comfortably afford to pay from her pension, and the quality of the living environment is wonderful. It was a very big move for her as a quiet person, and Virginia from JORC was incredibly understanding and helpful, as were all the senior team and the centre staff. Mum could not have felt more welcome and I felt very supported. It has made an enormous difference to my family to know she is safe, can reach out for help 24/7 and is feeling comfortable in her own attractive home in a lovely area. The catering is superb and mum loves having Sunday lunch with her new friends! She is stepping out socially and loves regular bus trips to the shopping centres nearby as well as social club coffee catchups.

I have been at James Ommaney for approximately seven months. I’ve found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. If I was their employer I would look at supporting them with better wages and conditions. The other residents are also friendly but not intrusive. I love the location as well as my backyard. My unit meets my needs to my satisfaction.

I have given two stars for position and convenience to shopping I find Tricare rely on residents to assist each other in times of need I have had a fall with resulting hand fractures, and major dental damage. To date six weeks later I have not had any offer of assistance or information regarding what Tricare could offer if I so desired , a simple inquiry, "how are you"would be a nice gesture. I also was concerned that staff do not seem to understand the concept of social distancing, as they have replaced the Village bus by one Maxi Taxi to transport at least seven residents, with walkers and shopping trolleys. When I questioned the wisdom of this practice, I was unprofessionally told to get my own taxi, if I had concerns This does not lead to feeling one is in a caring environment.
