After 14 years at St Jude’s Aged Care, Narre Warren North, I certainly got to experience… variety. In that time, we went through seven managers, two were wonderful leaders who genuinely cared about staff and residents, and the other five, (Including the current manager), Well……… let’s just say they (he) provided a masterclass in how not to manage people. It would be great to see Calvary, as the organisation in charge, put a bit more effort into ensuring staff get the kind of leadership they actually deserve, consistent, supportive, and capable. The residents and employees deserve stability, not a managerial revolving door. Looking back now, three years after leaving, I can see just how much the constant upheaval and lack of genuine support affected me on a personal and mental level. You don’t always realise the pressure you’re under until you step away from it. Aged care is demanding enough without staff having to navigate extra stress created by unstable or unresponsive leadership. I still keep in touch with several current employees, and from what I hear, many of the same issues are still happening. Staff continue to feel unheard, and management still doesn’t seem to take concerns seriously.
